The Hair Transplantation Procedure Steps to Success

In order to deal with your baldness you need to have good information so you can make logical and realistic decisions on what course of action you will take. There is a lot of conflicting information out there, mostly because people are trying to sell you something, so you really need to wade through the hype and look at the facts. If you are a man, there is a 95% chance that you will be losing your hair due to a medical condition known as Androgenic Alopecia. This is a genetic condition that causes the hair follicles in the affected area of the scalp to stop producing keratin the material hair shafts are made of. When this happens the best way to get hair growing is to transplant hairs from another area of the scalp.

The transplantation procedure is really quite simple.

* Planning the surgery. The hair restoration doctor will spend considerable time with you determining your desired outcome: how much hair you want and where you want it.
* Removal of hairs from the donor area. Men usually do not lose hair at the back of the head so this is where the living hair follicles will be removed from.
* Preparing hair units for transplant procedure. Each individual hair follicular unit need to be cleaned and prepped for insertion. This is usually done by assistants while the surgeon is inserting hairs which have already been prepared. There are usually several hundred or a few thousand transplanted so this can take a while.
* Implantation of the hair follicles. This is the most skilled intensive activity as placement of the hair will determine the overall results. The hair restoration surgeon will be very careful to be sure to match the directional growth pattern of the existing hair so the new hairs will tend to lay in the same direction as the surrounding, existing hairs.
* Recuperation is not a very long term problem any more. The procedure is usually done in one day and within a few days the head can be lightly shampooed.

Now within a few weeks the hair follicles have begun the process of connecting with the surrounding blood supply and within a few months the patient can experience a full head of hair again.
